Mini-Checklist: Signs You Are Still Making Prompt Soup

1 min read

The anchor post calls most prompt engineering "light-switch editing". Here is a self-check built from the habits it describes. Background: the anchor post.

Tick any that sound like your week:

☐ You type a role first and hope it shapes everything after it.

☐ You paste a stack of constraints without asking which ones matter for this goal.

☐ You rewrite the same paragraph again and again because the model drifted.

☐ You ask the model to write the prompt for you in one forward pass, then trust that single shot.

☐ You browse prompt tips, pick a few and paste them in, the shopping-list habit.

None is wrong on its own. Each one commits early to a single path through a combinatorial space much bigger than the text on your screen. Hand-editing explores one tiny corner. A single-shot generation explores another.

If several are ticked, try the other posture next time. Own the goal and the judgment. Let a probability field do the combinatorial search, then read the one brief it returns.

Soft door: swap one bowl of soup for one Edge collapse. Start from Members.

One Idea: Stress-Tested Before You See It

The QxBin Connector white paper says your brief is stress-tested through directed probabilistic search before you see it. Here is what that phrase means, and its honest limit.
